L.K. Craig was born in May of 1967 in Orange County, California. She grew up in St. Charles, Missouri and has fond memories of her childhood in a small town. Between elementary and Junior High, her family moved back to California where she grew up in the Sunny Hills area of Fullerton, California. Growing up she did not venture far and lives only 20 minutes from her high school stomping grounds.
What remains constant is her love of a good story.
Her mother tells a delightful story of how Lorina picked up a book before her first birthday and started pointing to the words and reading out loud, "No one taught her. She just knew."
Since that day she has been devouring books. While in elementary school she would enter book reading contests at the local library and won every contest entered. At school she delighted in having the most stars next to her name (and star for each book read). This love of reading continues today, but now she splits her time between reading and writing.
In 2010 she was diagnosed with stage II Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). This, in her words, changed her forever. Click on projects to read more about her book, I'm not that girl anymore.
It was after her diagnosis, during a treatment, that she decided that, "some things just can't wait." One of those things was getting her book published. She worked with her daughter, Kathleen, on the illustrations. Kathleen's good friend, Leigh, on editing. Her brother, Alvi, and younger daughter, Rachel, on the website. And everyone should could possibly enlist to help with feedback and promoting.
So here we are today. Three years cancer free and one year published!
L.K. is working on book two, The White Falcon: Allies. Her goal is to have book two published in 2015.
